Philadelphia Eagles' cornerback Isaiah Rodgers found a new home in NFL free agency after signing with the Minnesota Vikings to a two-year deal worth $15 million on Monday.
It turns out the decision was his own, though it was not an easy one to make.
And Rodgers made that very clear in an extremely heartfelt message to Eagles fans that he posted on social media:
Dear Philly,
To the fans – the land of the underdog. I was down and out and you all embraced me as one of your own. I will never forget my time here. From out pregame catches and cleat giveaways, to out Super Bowl Championship. I have genuinely never had more fun playing this game. It was a very difficult decision to leave, but I will always remember all of the love and support you showed me and my family. To my teammates – family for life. To the organization, thank you for taking a chance on me.
I will forever remain a Philadelphia Eagle Super Bowl Champion.
Until we meet again Philly!
Love, always,
34 – Isaiah Rodgers, Sr.
Rodgers leaves Philly a Super Bowl LIX champion, following an interesting start to his NFL career.
The former Indianapolis Colts' 2020 sixth-round pick was suspended for the entire 2023 NFL season due to gambling and released by Indy, but the Eagles didn't blink at picking him up shortly after. He was then reinstated a year later and made his first appearance at an Eagles practice on April 23, 2024.
That one year away from football did not phase Rodgers.
While playing limited snaps on defense, he finished the regular season logging 26 total tackles, a fumble recovery, one blocked kick, and four passes defended. During the Eagles' playoff run, Rodgers added another six total tackles, one fumble recovery, and defended three passes, including one off Patrick Mahomes in Philly's 40-22 Super Bowl victory.
Rodgers' overall stats from the 2024 season are nothing to write home about, however, he still deserves to be recognized for bouncing back from his past mistakes and taking full advantage of the opportunities granted to him by the Birds.
Best of luck to Rodgers in Minnesota.
