Jason Kelce fiercely defends Kevin Patullo on national television and shifts blame to Eagles players for loss to 49ers

The former Eagles lineman isn’t buying that it’s the coach’s fault.

The Philadelphia Eagles could be on their ways to coaching staff adjustments after a frustrating Wild Card loss at home to the San Francisco 49ers. Jason Kelce isn’t buying what most people are selling when it comes to the team’s lackluster offensive output this season, though.

Instead, he’s pushing blame onto the guys on the roster, rather than offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo – who has caught plenty of flak this season.

Eagles players catch strays from Jason Kelce in rant about Kevin Patullo

In a fiery (surprising, I know) rant about the failure of a finish to the season for Philly, one of their former Pro Bowl players stood up for Patullo and felt that players were getting off easy when it comes to who is hearing it from fans and media after the loss.

“I know it wasn’t the best performance this year offensively. They had the No. 1, highest-paid offense in the league and were mediocre across the board. That’s unacceptable. They had their chances to win that game yesterday, and the players didn’t make the plays! Alright? That’s all I’m going to leave it at.” — Jason Kelce on ESPN’s Monday Night Football pregame show

Kelce also noted that he loves Patullo and knows he is a great coach. While that may be true, it does not mean he is the correct play-caller for the talent in Philadelphia. His scheme and decision-making on a play by play basis held back the Eagles at times, and that was blatantly clear this season.

Keep in mind that the Eagles legend wasn’t snapping the ball for offensive units receiving their plays from Patullo. Rather, Patullo was the pass game coordinator for the Eagles prior to becoming OC this campaign. That was his role as Kelce’s career unwound.

Kelce was understandably frustrated for his former squad, but he made it known that he expects more from the guys in between the white lines – rather than the ones in headsets for the Eagles.
