Cowboys’ Jerry Jones did the absolute most when it came to making sure Howie Roseman and Eagles couldn’t land Micah Parsons
Jerry Jones did everything he could to make sure Howie Roseman couldn’t trade for Micah Parsons anytime soon.
The Philadelphia Eagles general manager, Howie Roseman, made an aggressive attempt to acquire Dallas Cowboys star edge rusher Micah Parsons back in August, but came up empty-handed.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Cowboys quickly shut down the idea, with Dallas owner Jerry Jones showing zero interest in sending one of the league’s best defensive players to a division rival.
Instead, Parsons landed with the Green Bay Packers, who gave up two first-round picks and defensive tackle Kenny Clark. They also signed Parsons to a four-year, $188 million extension, making him the richest non-quarterback in NFL history.
Even more details on the final deal surfaced over the weekend, where we learned that Jones did one more move just to ensure that Parsons would not end up in Philly.
Per Schefter, the Cowboys added a ‘poison pill’ that ultimately blocks the Eagles from trading for Parsons in the near future.
Eagles GM Howie Roseman isn’t afraid to swing big
Philly wanted Parsons so bad that they allegedly offered to send at least two first-round picks, a third-round pick, a fifth-round pick, plus more to Dallas in exchange for the superstar edge.
Sure, the trade falling through was a disappointment, but it’s not going to keep Roseman from pulling off more big moves down the road.
“I think for you to get to the top that you’ve got to be willing to take chances that,” Roseman said. “May look controversial at times. And so if there was an opportunity to do that with that, we thought it gave us also an opportunity to be the last team standing, put confetti on our heads, and we’re going to go aggressive in that direction. I just feel like that’s the right way to operate our team. And that doesn’t come without mistakes. I understand that. But I won’t live with regret. I won’t live with regret in the way that we operate around here. And so if we feel passionate about something, if we think the value is right, we’re not gonna be afraid to pull the trigger.”
The Eagles face the Packers on Monday Night Football. Not only will it be the first time they see Parsons in green and gold since the move, but it will also be the first time the two teams face off since the Eagles won the Tush Push ban proposal that Green Bay wrote up.
This win would mean so much more for Philly.
