The Philadelphia Eagles roster is far from perfect but it's definitely getting there and it's only the start of the offseason.

During the Eagles' first session of OTAs last week, backup quarterback Kenny Pickett put on a show for reporters who were in attendance.

According to Ed Kracz of Sports Illustrated, Pickett even outperformed starter Jalen Hurts in the one hour he saw.

"The backup quarterback looked sharp, sharper than Jalen Hurts, to be honest. Hurts was on the money on his first two seven-on-seven throws, hitting A.J. Brown on a quick inside slant then following up with a nice sideline throw about 15 yards downfield. Pickett, though, was consistently on target. The Eagles can win games with him if something happens to Hurts," Kracz wrote in an overreactions column

It's silly for anyone to think Pickett will have a chance to start over Hurts this season, but comforting knowing he's performing well this early and one less position for the Eagle to worry about.

Having a reliable backup quarterback is powerful in case (knock on wood) we see Hurts go down. Imagine if the Eagles re-signed Marcus Mariota … yikes.

Pickett performing well also means the Eagles are winning their trade and general manager Howie Roseman can use him as trade bait later down the road if he keeps this up.

Eagles Talent Making Pickett Look Good

Sure, Pickett appears to have no problem hitting his targets, but it must be a bit easier to do considering who he's throwing to in wide receiver A.J. Brown, dual-threat running back Saquon Barkley, and more.

The talent on the Eagles' roster was something Pickett pointed out in a recent interview with NBC Philadelphia where he also gave a shout-out to new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore's and Hurts' coaching.

"It’s been great,” Pickett said, via Rob Kuester of NBC Philadelphia. “Obviously, Jalen’s an incredibly talented player. He’s played in a similar system, and we’re kinda all learning this new one together. So the communication back and forth in the quarterback room has been awesome with the quarterbacks coaching us and Kellen. I couldn’t ask for a better room, better staff to be working with. Obviously, the talent around this team is pretty special, so it’s a great group to be in.”

The Eagles' second session of OTAs is this week, so we'll be on the lookout for more of Pickett's progress.
