Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman is looking like a genius again.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Eagles are acquiring edge rusher Jaelen Phillips from the Miami Dolphins. In return, Philly is sending a 2026 third-round pick to Miami.

This trade marks Roseman’s third in one week.

Philly previously acquired cornerback Michael Carter from the New York Jets and cornerback Jaire Alexander from the Baltimore Ravens.

Details about the trade that make Howie Roseman look like a genius

Beyond the trade details that make Howie Roseman look like a genius, the Eagles are also set to save a significant amount of money, with the Dolphins covering most of Phillips’ salary for the 2025 NFL season.

On top of that, if Phillips walks in free agency down the line, Philadelphia could be in line for a 2027 compensatory draft pick.

This trade is also a little special since Phillips reunites with defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, who coached him in Miami during the 2023 season.

Miami selected Phillips with the 18th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, and he wasted no time making an impact, setting a franchise rookie record with 8.5 sacks in his first season.

After following his rookie year with seven sacks in 2022, injuries his Phillips hard. He tore his Achilles in 2023 under Fangio, then his ACL in 2024. Those injuries appear to be in his rearview mirror.

Amid the Dolphins’ struggles this season, Phillips has been a bright spot, racking up 25 total tackles and three sacks in nine games. He’ll now join a Philly defense in need of a steady edge following Za’Darius Smith’s departure.

The Eagles also have Brandon Graham, who was persuaded out of retirement two weeks ago, though it’s unclear how much he will be able to contribute. Phillips offers some more reinforcement at the position with Nolan Smith, Jalyx Hunt,, Joshua Uche and Patrick Johnson
