Latest Eagles injury update may drastically change their plans for a Super Bowl run starting with 49ers matchup
Lane Johnson’s status is truly still up in the air for Philly.
Injuries always play a major role in who wins the Super Bowl. For the Philadelphia Eagles, they could host the San Francisco 49ers without one of their best offensive pieces, who affects the run and pass game.
Lane Johnson’s playing status is still up in the air ahead of 49ers game
Jay Glazer reported, prior to the Los Angeles Rams-Carolina Panthers game, that Eagles star tackle Lane Johnson is dealing with some pain and swelling in his foot. His foot injury has lingered throughout the back half of the season, but the Eagles have tried to be patient with him to avoid further harm.
He is considered a true game-time decision for the Eagles.
NFL insider Ian Rapoport confirmed the suspicion on Johnson’s status as well. He’s working his way back and is pushing to get on the field, which shouldn’t surprise a soul.
“If Lane Johnson can possibly be out there, he will be. But the concern is real.” — Ian Rapoport
The Eagles did make some intriguing roster moves on Saturday ahead of the matchup as well, though. They only elevated long snapper Charley Hughlett and defensive back Andre Sam for their wild-card matchup vs. the 49ers. That sparks some confidence that they believe Johnson will give it a go.
Versatile offensive lineman Brett Toth has already been ruled out. That is notable since he can play three different spots as a main backup for Philly. Their depth is running thin.
With concerns looming for Johnson, the Eagles have to both prep a game plan with him and without him, going into this tough matchup. We’ll see how they fare.
