Latest tush push news just made Eagles QB Jalen Hurts feel a lot better about next season
The NFL still considers it a viable play.
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts became known as a rushing threat partly due to his success using the tush push play. With new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion in the fold for next season, it would be smart for him to deploy it as a key opportunity to find success with Hurts.
The latest update on the play was a positive one for the Eagles offense, given their personnel.
Tush push rule change hasn’t been discussed
Via Competition Committee chair Rich McKay, the group has not yet seen a rules proposal related to banning Tush Push this year. That means that the play has not been brought to the table for a rule change so far this offseason.

Accordingly, this is a positive update for the Eagles. If Jalen Hurts
Last year, the Green Bay Packers made a proposal to ban the tush push as a play, but it did not pass. With that, teams still used it as an opportunity to pick up short yardage situations for first downs or touchdowns.
“Overall, the NFL saw slightly more tush pushes in 2025 (112) than in 2024 (101). The Eagles (27) and Bills (17) by far led the league in attempts, but other teams began experimenting with using tight ends rather than quarterbacks to take the snap — most notably the Pittsburgh Steelers and Seattle Seahawks. The conversion rate was slightly lower in 2025, as teams made a first down on 76.8% of attempts compared with 82% from 2022 through 2024.” — ESPN
The Eagles will be glad if this situation doesn’t take any more twists this offseason. Their QB would love to be able to produce on the ground using the tush push. We’ll see if that’s on the table for 2026 and possibly beyond.
