The Philadelphia Eagles quickly lost defensive tackle Milton Williams in NFL free agency last week.
And he had a heartfelt message for his teammates and fans on his way out:
"I don't know where to begin. So I'll start by saying Thank you! Thank you, Mr. Lurie and Howie for giving me an opportunity to begin my NFL career When you called me in 2021, you made my dreams come true. To the fans, you have made walking onto the field each and every game, exciting and worth every moment! I gave it all I had for you and I'm so thankful we brought the Lombardi home in Philly. My work here is done and I must move on but you will always remain near and dear to my heart!
"To my teammates, you already know what it is, brothers for life! Always Champions. Much love and God Bless!"
Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo, Williams signed a massive four-year, $104 million contract with the New England Patriots.
It's a historic deal that makes him the highest-paid player in Patriots franchise history, surpassing Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady. The deal is also very well-deserved after a very productive 2024 season.
Williams, a former third-round pick out of Louisiana Tech by the Eagles in 2021, saw action in 67 games with 19 starts over his first four seasons. His best season year came last year when he logged a career-high five sacks and the second-highest quarterback pressure rate among all defensive tackles (12.5%). He also earned a 90.4 grade from Pro Football Focus.
It's very unfortunate that the Eagles couldn't keep Williams in Philly, but that became difficult once the Dallas Cowboys signed defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa to a four-year, $80 million deal.
The good news is that Howie Roseman has a knack for finding quality and affordable replacements,
