The Dallas Cowboys' latest move just made it a lot tougher for the Philadelphia Eagles to keep star defensive tackle Milton Williams on their roster.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Cowboys and defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa agreed to a four-year, $80 million deal on Tuesday. The deal includes $58 million guaranteed, plus a $20 million signing bonus.
"Cowboys and DT Osa Odighizuwa reached agreement today on a four-year, $80 million deal that includes $58 million guaranteed and a $20 million signing bonus. Odighizuwa’s agent Sam Leaf Ireifej negotiated and confirmed the deal," Schefter reported on Tuesday, March 4.
Williams, a former third-round draft pick by the Eagles in 2021, will hit the open market next week, and if the Eagles want him to stay, they're going to need to pay up.
Odighizuwa and the Cowboys have now set the bar high, so Williams will more likely be looking for a similar or ever bigger deal. However, the 26-year-old defensive tackle could be worth the massive price tag.
That's because Williams appears to be just getting started after a season full of career highs in sacks (5) and QB pressures (40). He also logged two additional sacks in the Eagles’ Super Bowl win over the Kansas City Chiefs. And it's worth noting that in four seasons with the Birds, Williams missed just one game due to a concussion.
Of course, Howie Roseman and the Eagles will also have to think about other top free agents: linebacker Zack Baun, right guard Mekhi Becton, and edge rusher Josh Sweat.
The good news is that Williams made it known after winning Super Bowl LIX that he would "love" to stay in Philly, so maybe there is a chance that he could settle for a little bit less.
"Obviously, I'd love to be back in Philadelphia," Williams said a week after the Super Bowl, via CBS Sports. "But right now, I'm just trying to enjoy this moment with my teammates. The rest of that is going to take care of itself. I'm pretty sure I'm going to end up where I'm supposed to be. I just put that in God's hands."
