Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Nakobe Dean tore the patellar tendon in his knee during the team's wild-card playoff win over the Green Bay Packers and was ruled out for the rest of the playoff run.
After undergoing surgery and rehab, Dean is still doing everything he can to make sure he comes back faster and stronger.
In fact, he recently added ballet to his recovery process.
"There's way more flexibility, of course. Way more mobility," Dean said of the results via NBC Philadelphia's Brendan Brightman and Matt DeLucia. "It's definitely something that's helping with my rehab.
"You just feel a change immediately. After you stretch, you're not as tight or as sore."
Dean finished the Eagles' regular season racking up 128 tackles, three sacks, nine tackles for loss, six QB hits, and one interception. While his absence was felt, the Eagles still managed to pull off a historic Super Bowl LIX win over the Kansas City Chiefs.
"He has made big plays all year long," head coach Nick Sirianni said right after the injury. "One that comes to everyone’s mind is going to be the interception against Jacksonville to seal the game. ….He loves football, and how much time he spends working on this game of football and being able to diagnose plays. He lights up the puller with just that physical toughness play. You saw everything of who Nakobe is in that play. Bam, good football IQ. Boom, physical toughness.
There is currently no timeline on when Dean will be cleared to return for offseason training with his teammates, but for now, he will continue to build his muscle back and work on mobility through ballet.
"I'm more interested in the performance, looking at it… but I'm a football player through and through," Dean said. "My whole thing is trying to be the absolute best version of myself. For me, that's greatness. If I'm striving to be that everyday, and doing whatever it takes to be that."
