The NFL trade deadline (November 1) is quickly approaching and the Philadelphia Eagles, a team poised to make a Super Bowl run, could be a franchise that makes a move to improve their roster.
In fact, CBS Sports' Bryan DeArdo has a brilliant trade in mind that Philadelphia should try to pull off.
DeArdo thinks the Eagles should try to trade for Chicago Bears linebacker Roquan Smith.
Adding depth to the offensive line was also considered, but adding a Pro Bowl-caliber player to the middle of Philadelphia's defense would make a very good defense even better. It would also help resolve the Eagles' somewhat suspect run defense, as it is currently yielding an average of 5 yards per carry.
If the Bears are fielding offers, the Eagles should make a run at acquiring Roquan Smith, a tackling machine who led the NFL in tackles through six weeks. Along with being a solid tackler, Smith can also aid Philadelphia's pass rush while being a consistent presence in the opponent's backfield. Acquiring Smith would pay dividends for years to come, given that he is just 25 years old.

I love this idea. While everyone seems to be focusing on offense, the Eagles could add a dynamic player to their already solid defense.
And the great thing about Smith is that he can be a long-term part of the Eagles' plans. Philly is a legitimate Super Bowl contender this season, and the way their roster is set up, they should be a threat to win the Super Bowl for years to come. Smith, who is having a great season so far, would help solidify those plans.
Smith wants a new contract — he dealt with some drama in Chicago during the offseason — which means this could be a "tryout" period for the former Georgia standout if Philly acquires him.
Considering Smith is a free agent after the season and the Bears haven't extended him, there's a decent chance that the Eagles could get the talented linebacker for a bargain.
