Philadelphia Eagles star quarterback Jalen Hurts is dealing with a shoulder injury that will sideline him from Saturday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys. However, new reports suggest that this new injury could keep him off the field for longer than initially expected.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Hurts has suffered a SC (sternoclavicular) joint sprain in his throwing shoulder after taking a hit late in last week’s win over the Chicago Bears. This particular joint happens to be where one’s collarbone meets the breastbone.

Of course, with the Eagles’ magic number down to one for the NFC’s No. 1 seed heading into the playoffs, Philadelphia can approach Hurts’ injury with an abundance of caution. In order to lock up the top spot in the conference, Philly must win one of its last three games.

As the Eagles gear up with out Hurts against Dallas, his' status for Week 17 is up in the air.

A win against the Cowboys would allow the Eagles to sit Hurts out for the team’s Week 17 matchup with the New Orleans Saints. However, Hurts, who is as tough as they come, is likely to push for a return if the Eagles lost on Christmas Eve.

It’s an incredibly fragile situation the Eagles’ medical team and coaching staff are managing. Ultimately, the organization must determine whether or not the reward outweighs the risk of playing Hurts at less than 100 percent with the postseason on the horizon.
