The Eagles have had an eventful offseason thus far.

Out goes Javon Hargrave, CJ Gardner-Johnson, TJ Edwards, and Miles Sanders, among others, and in comes Rashaad Penny, Nicholas Morrow, Greedy Williams, and Terrell Edmunds.

The Eagles' number one priority this offseason was always to retain the majority of their key veterans, which they accomplished. However, one veteran was awfully close to leaving

Darius Slay mentioned on his podcast, Big Play Slay, that he was "almost a Baltimore Raven."

If you recall during the first week of free agency, several reports came out concerning Slay. Initially the Eagles granted the star corner permission to seek a trade, and then it was reported that the team was close to releasing Slay.

Ultimately, Slay signed a two-year deal to remain in Philadelphia, putting an end to the dramatic saga.

However, it was not known until Slay's comments just how close a deal was.

Slay said the following on his podcast:

“I was almost — this close — a Baltimore Raven,” Slay said. “I was this close. This close. But I wanted to be an Eagle, I stayed an Eagle, because I know me and Howie were going to figure something out. But the Baltimore Ravens were the first team that called, and they offered just what I wanted, and I just said, if the Eagles do that, I’m going to stay an Eagle. It was nice. I almost was a Raven.”

Fortunately for Eagles' fans, Slay and Howie Roseman were able to work out the kinks and get a deal done.

Slay will once again be joined in the secondary by James Bradberry, who also came to a deal with the Eagles to return in 2023. That duo will be crucial to the Eagles' success, as there is not much depth to speak of in the secondary.
