There’s plenty of coaching staff decisions still to be made across the NFL. For the Philadelphia Eagles, finding their new offensive coordinator has been a continuous, windy search over recent weeks, and there truly is not a clear end in sight.

Kevin Patullo is out as their play caller, but where will they turn. Mike McDaniel went to the Los Angeles Chargers. Arthur Smith went to the college ranks the next Ohio State Buckeyes OC. Declan Doyle and Charlie Weis Jr. have both exited the race as of now.

Brian Daboll is the latest candidate to choose another team over Philadelphia. According to reports, he’s going to the Tennessee Titans to be their next OC for Cam Ward’s offense.

Brian Daboll chose Titans over Eagles after conversations and having connections with both

NFL insider Mike Garafolo confirmed the recent positive conversations between Daboll and the Eagles contingency with a tweet on Tuesday. In the end, he simply chose the situation with the Titans under new HC Robert Saleh over the opening with Philly.

“Brian Daboll had good conversations with the #Eagles and was intrigued by a possible reunion with Jalen Hurts. But he and Robert Saleh grew close in recent years and there was a lot to like about Cam Ward and the #Titans. So the two former NY coaches reunite on another Broadway.” — Mike Garafolo

Jordan Schultz noted that the Titans were very aggressive in their pursuit of Daboll as well. They wanted him badly and found a way.

“Titans GM Mike Borgonzi put on a full-court press to land Daboll as OC regardless of who the head coach would be. When Robert Saleh emerged as their HC choice, Saleh was already on board with Daboll.” — Schultz

It is clear that the positives just didn’t outweigh the potential negatives for the Eagles’ landing spot.

Daboll is fresh off of being fired as the head coach as the New York Giants, so jumping straight into one of the highest-pressure OC roles in the NFL probably wasn’t the smartest choice in his mind. That isn’t particularly shocking, but it is a bit jarring for the Eagles. They were just overlooked in favor of a team who has won six total games over the past two full seasons.

Daboll clearly believes he will have some time to put together an offensive unit that can impress with Ward at the helm and an assistant group that he will have plenty of say in building for the foreseeable future.

For the Eagles, they must look elsewhere and continue parsing through potential candidates for the job. Nick Sirianni will play a role, and the front office in Philadelphia understands how important this decision will be for everyone involved.
