The NFL world collectively gasped early this past week when Philadelphia Eagles offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland announced that he was leaving the team. In a move that flew around it rumors for days before, it actually came to fruition.

Now, plenty of folks are wondering what Stoutland’s future will hold in the NFL.

Brian Baldinger thinks Jeff Stoutland will keep coaching instead of retiring after leaving Eagles

According to the insider during Super Bowl LX media week, the long-time Eagles offensive line coach may stick around in the NFL coaching circles rather than exiting the sidelines. There have been reports that both sides in Philly had issues that led to his exit from the organization after 13 years.

“He didn’t retire. I think he’s going to coach,” Baldinger said. “I know his phone is ringing off the hook today. He’s simply the best. There’s things he does that nobody in this league does.”

Baldinger has to be spot on with his assumption that teams are calling Stoutland nonstop right now. He is one of the most well-respected OL minds in football and helped the Eagles create one of the most consistent units in all of the NFL during his time with the time.

Philadelphia’s success in the trenches on offense was a key cog in multiple Super Bowl runs.

Scheme shift may be a reason for Stoutland’s departure from Philadelphia

The Eagles now have yet another offensive staff task on their plate. One of the reported reasons for the split between the team and Stoutland was the scheme that will be inherited from offensive coordinator Sean Mannion. It will be a stark shift in play calling and overall offensive game planning.

There is a sense that Stoutland wasn’t interested in making that transition without a history in that type of scheme.

“Another wrinkle emerged with the hiring of the 33-year-old Mannion as offensive coordinator last week. Mannion is slated to install a new scheme that will pull from the Sean McVay and Kyle Shanahan systems. Given that Stoutland doesn’t have a history with that offense, he would have needed someone to bring him up to speed on the new system, a source noted.” — Tim McManus, ESPN
