The Philadelphia Eagles' next stop is Super Bowl LIX after beating the Washington Commanders, 55-23, on Sunday evening.
It was an overall great game for quarterback Jalen Hurts, who shut down doubters as he ran for three scores with a knee injury and completed 20 of 28 passes for 246 yards and another touchdown.
“How about our quarterback? He’s a stud,” Head coach Nick Sirianni said following the Eagles' historic victory. “I knew he was going to play that way. I knew it. Don’t doubt him. All he does is win.”
This will be Sirianni and Hurts' second Super Bowl together, and it will be the ultimate rebound after the Eagles' collapse in 2023.
"Yeah, we’ve been through a lot together, right? A lot of wins, some down times. That’s what kind of forges relationships," Sirianni said. " I don’t want anybody else leading this team at quarterback other than him. He’s a winner. Again, he deals with so much criticism which just blows my mind because of the questions I have to answer. I don’t look too much into that. The questions I have to answer it’s just like, man, this guy wins. He’s won his entire life."
Of course, Hurts' enormous success comes with plenty of help from those around him, from the Eagles' offensive line to his top targets in running back Saquon Barkley and wide receiver A.J. Brown.
"Winning at quarterback is more important than any stat that you go through," Sirianni said. "I’m sure it’ll be the same thing. ‘Oh, he’s got great players around him.’ Well, you tell me a quarterback that’s won like this that has s— around him. It doesn’t happen, right? Talk about [Hall of Fame QB] Joe Montana. Who is he throwing to? Oh, [Hall of Fame WR] Jerry Rice. So, these guys have been so good at this position and have had great players around them.
"Whether it’s [former NFL QB Tom] Brady with the defense early on in his career or [former NFL WR Julian] Edelman or [former NFL TE Rob Gronkowski] Gronk. I mean, you don’t win in this game unless you have great players around you. You don’t win consistently unless you have great players around you."
Since Sirianni was hired as Philly's head coach in 2021, Hurts has led the Eagles to at least 12 wins over the last three seasons and a playoff berth.
"Sometimes I feel like it’s a negative on him," Sirianni said. "It kind of blows your mind. He wins. He’s a winner. I don’t want anyone else leading us other than Jalen Hurts. I’m proud of the way he went out there and battled today and played today.
"He doesn’t care about anything other than winning, and I know that and that’s selfless."
We'll see if Hurts can finally get his biggest win of them all when the Eagles face the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl on Feb. 9.
