One of the Philadelphia Eagles’ most intriguing battles this offseason happened in their secondary at the safety and outside cornerback positions.

Even when it came down to the final game of the preseason, the Eagles still didn’t have a clear answer for who would start opposite Quinyon Mitchell at cornerback and Reed Blankenship at safety.

On Philly’s unofficial depth chart, they have Kelee Ringo is listed as the backup Mitchell, with Adoree’ Jackson and Jakorian Bennett both listed in the second cornerback slot. Meanwhile, Sydney Brown and rookie Andrew Mukuba are both listed in the second safety spot to start alongside Blankenship.

Nick Sirianni refuses to clarify Eagles’ lineup questions

When asked earlier this week to clarify those starting jobs ahead of Week 1’s matchup against the Dallas Cowboys, head coach Nick Sirianni wasn’t ready to tell.

“You’ll see when we get to that. I always respect your guys’ job of what you guys got to do, and I appreciate your persistence and your relentlessness,” Sirianni said. “We teach that a lot, to have persistence and relentlessness to do our job, and I just don’t think at this time it benefits us to say that when I don’t have to. So yeah, I’ll announce it on Thursday.”

While fans and reporters are dying to know, this kind of approach of keeping things under wraps could mean Sirianni is trying to hold off as much as possible to keep Dallas on their toes. Or maybe, they’re still figuring it out themsevles, which could be worrisome.

From what insiders were saying at the end of camp, it sounded like Adoree’ Jackson was the clear other starting safety while Sydney Brown made sense at CB2 until Andrew Mukuba was fully recovered from his hamstring injury and more comfortable with the defense.

We’ll get the answer soon as the wait is almost over with the Eagles-Cowboys kicking off tomorrow night at 8:20 p.m. ET.
