The Philadelphia Eagles are officially locked into the No. 2 seed heading into the NFL playoffs, which means whatever happens in Week 18 against the New York Giants won't affect them.
That leaves many fans wondering if the Eagles will rest or play their starters.
This question typically wouldn't be that important nor would the answer, but considering running back Saquon Barkley could break a 40-year-old NFL record — everyone is dying to know.
Head coach Nick Sirianni wasn't ready to answer that question on Sunday following the team's Week 17 win over the Dallas Cowboys.
He also didn't want to jump the gun on Monday while speaking to the media. However, Sirianni did hint that he may be ready to reveal his decision on Wednesday when the players return to practice.
"Still not there," Sirianni said. "Obviously I gave the players off today. They’ll be back in a couple days. By the next time I talk to you, they’ll be back in. So I’ll always inform them before I inform anyone else.
"I know you guys are going to want that answer as soon as you guys can get it. I’ll try to help you guys do your job as much as I possibly can, but I’ll always inform our players of things first. But still sorting through things right now at this particular moment."
Of course, resting starters makes the most sense ahead of a Super Bowl run, and if I had to guess, that's exactly what Sirianni will do.
Aside from keeping key players healthy, there is another huge upside to resting starters in favor of backups as it gives a better glimpse of the Eagles' future.
"Again, I don’t know where we are with that yet. But anytime anybody’s able to play game reps and meaningful snaps in the NFL, that’s huge," Sirianni said. "It gives you an evaluation process. It gives those guys an opportunity that haven’t gotten an opportunity to play to play meaningful reps. That’s always huge when you can do that. Like I said, we’ll see where we are with that, but a good opportunity if that is the way we go."
We will update Sirianni's decision on Wednesday.
