Nick Sirianni keeps his calm over Jalen Carter’s absurd unsportsmanlike penalty during Eagles win vs Cowboys
The win definitely helped his case.
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni isn’t getting too fired up over defensive tackle Jalen Carter getting ejected before the first snap of Week 1’s win over the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday night.
Sirianni opened up his press conference after the Eagles’ 24-20 win with a calm demeanor, while addressing his team’s fouls.
“On personal fouls today, I want these guys to play with great energy, great tenacity, while doing it within the rules of the game,” Sirianni said. “So, we’ll address that. We talked about that, obviously, at halftime. That’s a really good offense, and every one of their drives that resulted in points were all penalties. Now, a PI (Pass interference), that’s different. That’s in the heat of the game. Those are going to happen. But I know we had one with Nolan (Smith) and one with JC (Jalen Carter), and that creates short fields for an offense.
“Again, like I said, we want to be there. We want to have great energy, great tenacity, but we’ve got to do it within the rules of the game. We’ll address that. We’ll go through that, and we’ve got to get better in that scenario because we need that guy on the field because he’s a really good player.”
Sirianni was then pressed on how he plans to punish Carter for the unsportsmanlike penalty he received after spitting in Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott’s face, but made it clear he’s keeping that to himself.
“Yeah, I’m going to keep all of our conversations and all of my disciplinary things in-house,” Sirianni said. “But we’ve got to fix it as coaches.”
Carter has already apologized to his teammates and vowed that it won’t happen again.
“It was a mistake that happened on my side. It won’t happen again,” he said. “I feel bad for just my teammates and fans out there. I’m doing it for them. I’m doing it for my family, also. But the fans, they showed the most love.”
