The Philadelphia Eagles are preparing to face the Washington Commanders in the NFC Championship with questions currently looming around quarterback Jalen Hurts' injured knee and cornerback Quinyon Mitchell's injured shoulder.
Head coach Nick Sirianni couldn't provide any details on Monday when asked how both were feeling 24 hours after hurting themselves in Sunday's win over the Los Angeles Rams, though he remained optimistic.
"We’ll have more information for you. Obviously still going through the process of the day here. I know those guys will do everything they can do to be at their top part of their game on Sunday," Sirianni said. "I’m confident in our training staff. I’m confident in those guys. We’ll see how that goes as the week goes on."
While that isn't exactly the answer fans are looking for, it's better than hearing early in the week that they won't be ready to play.
Fans will have more clarity when the Eagles' first injury report for this week is released on Wednesday afternoon.
In the terrible case that Hurts is unavailable for Sunday, Sirianni confirmed that backup quarterback Kenny Pickett remains their No. 2 guy with Tanner McKee listed as their emergency No. 3 QB.
However, Sirianni admitted that the Eagles can't really go wrong with either after both stepped up in big ways in place of Hurts at the end of the regular season.
"As far as the backup quarterback goes, [QB] Kenny [Pickett] played really well when he was in, and [QB] Tanner [McKee] played really well when he was in. Makes you have tough decisions, and that’s a good thing to have," Sirianni said. "But the entire year, Kenny was our backup. When he played, I thought he did a really nice job and put us in positions to win games. When Tanner played, he did a really nice job and put us in positions to win games.
"We have three guys that we’re so excited to have on this roster."
