The Philadelphia Eagles are not done adding cornerback help while they search for Darius Slay’s official replacement.

According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Eagles are signing former San Francisco 49ers cornerback Ambry Thomas.

“Sources: The #Eagles are signing former #49ers CB Ambry Thomas to their practice squad. Still just 25 years old, the former 3rd-pick out of Michigan now gets a fresh start in Philly,” Schultz wrote on X/Twitter.

Thomas was initially drafted out of Michigan by the San Francisco 49ers in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft. Over three seasons with the Niners, he played in 42 games with 11 starts, picking off two passes along the way. He also started four playoff games.

Thomas was sidelined for all of 2024 after breaking his arm in the preseason opener against the Tennessee Titans, which led to the 49ers releasing him mid-December. The Indianapolis Colts picked him up off waivers, though he was let go after he failed his physical.

Most recently, Thomas spent the offseason with the Minnesota Vikings before he was released during Tuesday’s cutdown day.

As it looks right now, the Eagles don’t have a clear-cut answer at cornerback No. 2 opposite Quinyon Mitchell. They have Adoree Jackson and Jakorian Bennett both listed as a start, so that competition is far from over.

With that said, it’s possible Thomas could be active on gameday and see more than a cup of coffee in Philly.

The Eagles kick off their Week 1 regular-season opener against the Dallas Cowboys next Thursday night.
