The Philadelphia Eagles added an eighth Georgia Bulldogs product to their roster in the 2025 NFL Draft when they selected linebacker Smael Mondon in the fifth round.
Mondon has yet to prove what he can do at the next level, but the Eagles trust what Georgia head coach Kirby Smart is doing in Athens and went ahead and signed the former Bulldogs star to a four-year, $4.5 million deal.
"First rookie draft pick signing is in: Eagles fifth-round pick, linebacker Smael Mondon, has signed a four-year, $4.595 million deal," ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Friday.
Not only is this a great rookie deal for Mondon, but it's ultimately a great deal for the Eagles in the long run.
Mondon takes the jump to the NFL after accumulating 212 total tackles, including 18 tackles for loss, eight sacks, and one interception through 51 games with the Bulldogs. Mondon also showcased his versatility in pass defense, logging five pass breakups.
What Makes Former Georgia Bulldogs So Draftable?
The Eagles have now selected six former Georgia players since 2022.
General manager Howie Roseman spoke at this year's NFL Combine on what makes the Bulldogs so draftable.
“You know incredibly detailed program,” Roseman said. “Obviously they have a history of winning. You know, when you look at it, when you add new players and you add this many new players from one place, they also know how to play off each other. They have a chemistry that normally you have to cultivate through your team and through years of practice, and so you get a head start, and then you’re talking about.
“Really putting in to place one of the greatest defenses in the history of college football, and you know they play with an edge, they play with the mentality, and you know Kirby does a phenomenal job.”
Under coach Smart, Georgia has seen 66 players drafted into the NFL since 2016. This includes 20 first-round picks and 46 players drafted since 2022.
Georgia players are built differently, and Mondon looks poised to be the next one to prove it at the NFL level.
