The Philadelphia Eagles have finally given what fans spent the entire season begging for, moving on from offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo after a lackluster offensive season in 2025. The offense routinely let down the defense, and ultimately was the main reason why the Eagles lost in the Wild Card round of the playoffs this season.

Now as they turn to replace Patullo, sources say there’s a high-profile name already figuring to be a prominent figure in the Eagles’ search, and could even be the favorite, depending on the results of the rest of the NFL coaching cycle.

Jalen Hurts’ former playcaller could replace Kevin Patullo

Speaking to sources, there already seems to be a clear picture being painted of the early favorite for Kevin Patullo’s replacement. Former New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll has emerged as a strong candidate to be the Eagles’ next offensive coordinator.

Several teams Daboll met with as a free agent after his firing from the Giants, including the Penn State Nittany Lions, but it felt like Daboll had received considerable interest from the Eagles if they made a change with Patullo. He had received interest from teams at both the collegiate and NFL ranks, but according to many, the Eagles felt like a job he was primarily circling.

Daboll has familiarity with both Nick Sirianni and Jalen Hurts, which explains the mutual interest between both sides.

Why Brian Daboll makes sense for the Eagles

Daboll obviously boasts a resume worthy of being a strong candidate for the Eagles’ vacant offensive coordinator position. He was instrumental in the development of Josh Allen with the Buffalo Bills, and has guided some of the NFL’s best offenses both with the Bills and during his time as head coach of the New York Giants. He maximized Daniel Jones and Jaxson Dart to the best of their ability, something the Eagles desperately need the next offensive coordinator to get out of Jalen Hurts.

Hurts and Daboll are already familiar with each other during their time together at Alabama. Granted, Daboll was a key proponent of the decision to start Tua Tagovailoa over Hurts (which turned out to be the correct move for everyone involved), but that familiarity is already half the battle when it comes to being hired.

Additionally, there are plenty of links to both Nick Sirianni and general manager Howie Roseman. Sirianni and Daboll worked together with the Kansas City Chiefs back in 2012, when Daboll was the offensive coordinator and Sirianni was the wide receivers coach. When Sirianni was hired as head coach of the Eagles, he credited Daboll as “one of his biggest mentors” from their time together in Kansas City. Daboll also shares an agent, Bob LaMonte, with Howie Roseman, something that could be a potential explanation for why teams felt that way regarding the mutual interest this offseason.

For the Eagles, they need a candidate who can work to maximize Hurts and what he has shown he can run. Any Shanahan or McVay tree candidate doesn’t make sense with Hurts as a fit, since he hasn’t shown an ability to operate under center or work the middle of the field. Daboll’s offense, however, has excelled at peppering teams with RPOs (Hurts’ favorite concept) and a creative run game. Additionally, Daboll hasn’t been afraid to weaponize the quarterback run game with multiple quarterbacks, and the Eagles’ offense has been at their best when Hurts is featured often as a runner.

This search is obviously very early on in the process, but there are plenty of links and reasons why the interest is already so strong this early on. If Daboll isn’t hired away as head coach of a team (as of the time of this writing he is set to interview with the Tennessee Titans), I’d look for these two sides to make it happen quick.
