The Philadelphia Eagles did not take long to make their roster decision on backup quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson.

Soon after the Eagles traded the Minnesota Vikings for quarterback Sam Howell, the team waived Thompson-Robinson, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported.

Thompson-Robinson appeared in the Eagles’ first two preseason games, where he completed 10-of-16 passes for 73 yards, zero touchdowns, and one interception.

The Eagles had him sit out for their preseason finale against the New York Jets in favor of rookie quarterback Kyle McCord.

The Eagles initially sent backup quarterback Kenny Pickett to the Cleveland Browns back in March, acquiring Thompson-Robinson and a 2025 fifth-round pick in return.

Thompson-Robinson, 25, was a former fifth-round pick out of UCLA by the Browns in the 2023 NFL Draft. He is set to enter his third year of a four-year, $4.2 million rookie contract. Thompson-Robinson appeared in seven games with two starts, completing 61 of 118 pass attempts (51.7 percent) for 440 yards, no touchdowns, and six interceptions in 2024. He also rushed 21 times for 122 yards.

The Eagles have their No. 2 quarterback in Tanner McKee; however, his availability for Week 1 against the Dallas Cowboys is in question due to a fractured thumb. His injury left the Eagles trading for Howell since they were not too confident in Thompson-Robinson or McCord.

The Eagles have until Tuesday, August 26, at 4 p.m. ET to cut down to 53 players. Now that they have another experienced backup quarterback in Howell, they’ll likely cut McCord and try to bring him back on the practice squad.
