The Philadelphia Eagles don’t need another running back, but they could have an emergency one in defensive tackle Jordan Davis if they ever needed it.

Davis, who returned a blocked field goal attempt for a touchdown to help the Eagles beat the Los Angeles Rams, 33-26, reached a top speed of 18.59 mph.

“He might have a future at running back,” Eagles’ star running back Saquon Barkley told reporters after hearing how fast he ran.

Jordan Davis’ Offseason Transformation Was Well Worth It

According to NextGen Stats, it’s the first since 2017 that a player weighing over 330 pounds has run that fast. This wasn’t too surprising for some, considering Davis turned heads at the NFL combine for his elite speed after running a 4.78 40-yard dash at six-foot-six and 341 pounds.

Davis underwent a major transformation this past spring, shedding weight from 356 pounds down to 330 to improve his speed, and it clearly paid off.

“Jordan– I know you guys have talked a little bit because you’ve asked me about this– has worked so hard to get himself in great shape to be able to play the amount of snaps he played and then have all that last [bit] to get a block kick and to scoop and score to get in the end zone. Pretty remarkable,” Eagles’ head coach Nick Sirianni said after their walk-off win.

“…. The shape that he’s in and how he is. I’ve seen him walk around with his shirt off a lot more now, which he should. It’s good, and he just worked his butt off. You saw in Training Camp that something like this would happen, and he’s played good football through the first three weeks.”

The Eagles now head south to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday for their Week 4 matchup.
