Riding a five-game win streak, the Philadelphia Eagles came into Dallas and dropped a very winnable 34-40 game. But Eagles fans shouldn't dismay. If not for some untimely and uncharacteristic turnovers and no Jalen Hurts Philadelphia should and could have come out on top.
In total, Philadelphia coughed the ball up four times. Two times, however, came from backup quarterback Gardner Minshew who threw interceptions on drives that could have changed the completion of the game.
The first pick came at the start of the second quarter with Philadelphia leading 10-7. With the ball on Philadelphia's 43-yeard line, Minshew threw a pass intended for Quez Watkins. It found a cowboys defender instead. On the next drive, the Cowboys scored, giving them the first lead of the game.
Regardless of how you look at it, that was simply a great play. It wasn't as though Minshew made a horrible read or the pass got away from him. It was merely unlucky.
Minshew's second interception was arguably far more costly.
With four minutes left to play, Minshew threw a pass intended for Watkins. It landed in the hands of a Dallas defender.
The interception led to a six-play 32-yard drive that culminated in a field goal for Dallas.
The Fumbles
In between both interceptions was a Minshew fumble in the third quarter that was recovered by Dallas.
But Miles Sanders' fumble late is what doomed Philadelphia. With two minutes left to play, Sanders dropped the ball while running and Dallas recovered it. The fumble put immense amounts of pressure on Philadelphia's defense, which couldn't keep Dallas off the scoreboard.
All in all, the turnovers were uncharacteristic for the Eagles. With a healthy Hurts, this game undoubtedly looks different. But that wasn't the case Saturday night.
Regardless, Philadelphia fans shouldn't worry. Dallas got lucky.
