There's a wild stat floating around that's good news for the Philadelphia Eagles and extremely bad news for the Dallas Cowboys.

94WIP's Eliot Shorr-Parks pointed out on Thursday morning that 14 of the last 16 teams to win the NFC East didn't make the playoffs the following season.

Not only that, but the only defending NFC East champion to win 10 games out of those 16 division winners was Philadelphia in 2014. That Eagles team went 10-6 in Chip Kelly's second season, but they failed to make the playoffs.

Dallas, of course, won the division last season by going 12-5 overall and they were undefeated in division play.

The Cowboys' fan base is loud. And the tone coming from those fans seems to suggest that they think they have the NFC East in the bag this season.

History, however, suggests that isn't the case.

On top of the history, there's also the fact that Philly is an improved team from last season. And it's not like the Eagles were bad last year — they made the playoffs as a wild card with a 9-8 record.

This offseason, Philadelphia made a blockbuster trade, acquiring wide receiver AJ Brown from the Tennessee Titans. Brown had a preexisting friendship with quarterback Jalen Hurts, which should lead to plenty of chemistry between the two this season. The addition of Brown will also afford wide receiver DaVonta Smith more opportunities as Brown will likely command the attention of the top cornerback on opposing teams.

The Eagles also have a really good defense, something that probably isn't being talked about enough on a national level.

History tells us that Dallas probably isn't repeating as NFC East champions this season. If that proves to be true, it will almost certainly be Philadelphia that comes out on top in the division.
