All-Pro LB Zack Baun praises Philadelphia Eagles rookie for dominant performance against Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Complete stud.
Philadelphia Eagles rookie linebacker Jihaad Campbell put on a dominant performance against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday afternoon.
Campbell was responsible for four tackles, one forced fumble, one interception, and one pass defended in the Eagles’ 35-25 win over Tampa.
Of course, it was the interception he had on quarterback Baker Mayfield late in the fourth quarter that was the most impressive play of the day. And his All-Pro rookie linebacker teammate Zack Baun made sure to give the rookie plenty of love after the game.
“I don’t even think he knows what he’s doing or what he’s capable of doing,” Baun said of Campbell following the Eagles’ win. “He just keeps getting better and better. That’s his mindset.”
Yes, Jihaad Campbell Made Up for the 72-Yard Touchdown He Allowed
Campbell touched on the moment he saw the ball flying through the air before diving to make the big play and securing it in his arms.
“I’d seen the ball in the air, and it was one of those things where Coach Sirianni talks about getting to your back shoulder and getting to your back,” Campbell told reporters after the game. “As soon as I caught it, that’s what I tried to do. That’s what happened … (Mayfield) is a guy that likes to run around a lot, and just throughout the chaos, he threw it up in the air and it was picked.”
His interception was a game-saver for Philly and completely made up for the 72-yard touchdown that he allowed earlier in the game, which he never let get to his head.
“I know I’m a better player than that, so it’s a next-play mentality type of industry,” Campbell said. “It is what it is. Just keep my foot on the gas and learn from the mistake. It’s just next play, honestly.”
Through four games so far, Campbell has racked up 22 tackles, including 12 solo tackles, one forced fumble, one interception, and two pass deflections.
His next moment to add to his Defensive Rookie of the Year resume is Week 5 against the Denver Broncos.
