Aaron Rodgers’ hot streak comes at a perfect time after seeing glaring weakness that Steelers will look to exploit against Lions
Aaron Rodgers will catch the Lions right where he wants them ahead of Sunday.
The Pittsburgh Steelers will look to extend a two-game winning streak to three on Sunday when they travel to take on a Detroit Lions team that is fighting for their playoff lives. It is quite literally a must-win for Detroit, while the Steelers still have some breathing room after back-to-back wins.
However, this game will reveal what the Steelers are truly made of and how they might perform against a playoff-caliber team. So to prepare for said matchup, I previewed the game with Mike Payton of A to Z Sports Detroit.
What has caused the regression of Detroit’s defense?
“It’s been the injuries for sure. Even more so, it’s been the injuries happening in one specific area, and that’s the secondary. The Lions lost Terrion Arnold for the season, and D.J. Reed is back, but he’s clearly been affected by the hamstring injury that kept him out most of the year.” – Payton
If there ever was a time for Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers offense to take advantage of a banged-up secondary, it would be now. Coming off his best back-to-back performances of the season, and with DK Metcalf finally flourishing, look for Rodgers to try and take advantage.
How should the Steelers consider guarding Jameson Williams?
“They have to find a way to keep up with him. He is so fast when he gets downfield and if he gets you on a deep crosser, there’s just nothing anyone can do to stop him. I would have a safety overtop all day long, but that does kind of open things up for Amon-Ra St. Brown. It’s a real pick-your-poison type thing.” – Payton
It will be on Joey Porter Jr. to guard Williams, and it will be up to the middle of the Steelers’ defense to take care of St. Brown.
Has the Lions offensive line taken a step back? And where is the weak spot?
“Yes and no. Obviously, losing Frank Ragnow and Kevin Zeitler hurt a lot, and for much of the season, these young guys have struggled. But they have been getting better every week. The good news is that the Lions should get their starting left guard, Christian Mahogany back against the Steelers. Left guard has been he real weak spot for Detroit. They let up five pressures and a sack from the spot against the Rams.” – Payton
Expect the Steelers to attack the interior of the Lions line, especially with Derrick Harmon back in the mix.
