The Pittsburgh Steelers remain in limbo at the quarterback position. There has been a lot of talk, dating back to the end of the season, about what the Steelers should, or will do, with the man under center in 2026.

The most obvious candidate has been Aaron Rodgers, who insiders reported during Super Bowl week was/is close to returning to Pittsburgh. Well, here we are nearly a month later, and Rodgers still hasn’t made a decision. That has led some to hypothesize about other options like Kyler Murray, or just giving the keys to Will Howard. Well, Rodgers finally addressed where things stand with the Steelers, but it’s probably not the one Pittsburgh fans are hoping for.

Aaron Rodgers remains undecided on his future with the Pittsburgh Steelers

“I’ve talked to Mike [McCarthy], I’ve talked to Omar [Khan]. There’s been no deadline. There’s no contract offer or anything. So there’s nothing that I’m having to debate between. I’m a free agent. I’m enjoying my time with my wife, and enjoying this part of the offseason and I think there’s conversations to be had down the line, but right now, I’m not there.”

“There hasn’t been any progressive conversations. I love Mike, and I have kept in contact over the years. I’ve, you know, had conversations with Omar. I think Omar enjoyed having me there. I think the guys had a positive response to our time together. But again, there hasn’t been a deadline set on me. There hasn’t been any contract floated in front of me like, ‘Well, we’re giving you till, March 8th to make a decision on this.’ There’s been nothing to that respect.”

Where do the Steelers go from here?

For the Steelers, the clock is ticking. Pretty soon, the legal tampering period will open, and whether it’s Kyler Murray, Malik Willis, or Derek Carr, name a free agent option, they will likely be gone by the end of next week.

If none of them sign with the Steelers, Pittsburgh will be back in the same situation they were last year. Of course, there is the NFL Draft, but the Steelers might as well go with Will Howard once Fernando Mendoza and Ty Simpson are off the board.

Nonetheless, the holding pattern continues in Pittsburgh.
