Aaron Rodgers has beaten 31 teams, there's one to go. The veteran quarterback has never faced, and therefore beaten, the Green Bay Packers. After signing a one-year contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers, the veteran quarterback will have the chance to do it and join an insanely talented group of quarterbacks.
The Steelers play the Packers on Sunday Night Football in Week 8. If Rodgers starts and Pittsburgh wins, he will become the fifth quarterback in NFL history to win games against all 32 teams.
The list is truly insane: Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Brett Favre, and Peyton Manning. The fact that Favre did that, beating the Packers with the Minnesota Vikings, and Rodgers can follow his path once again is particularly intriguing. Brees beat the New Orleans Saints before joining them, since he started his career with the San Diego Chargers. But Brady, Favre, and Manning had similar stories to go back and beat their old teams in classic games.
To be fair, Joe Montana and Fran Tarkenton also beat every team in the league at their time, but there were only 28 franchises back in the day.
Right now, Aaron Rodgers is tied with Kerry Collins, Patrick Mahomes, Ben Roethlisberger, Alex Smith, and Russell Wilson as quarterbacks to beat 31 franchises at some point of their careers.
Funnily, the Steelers were the last team (excluding the Packers) Aaron Rodgers beat in the regular season. He did beat Pittsburgh in Super Bowl XLV after the 2010 season, but in the regular season it hadn't happened before 2021, his second to last season in Green Bay. Counting both regular season and playoffs, the last team Rodgers beat was the Cincinnati Bengals in 2017. Now, one way or the other, the Packers are the last one to go.
Career arc
Rodgers played 18 years for the Packers, including 15 years as a starter. Two years ago, he was traded to the New York Jets. However, he didn't have the opportunity to face Green Bay in these two seasons playing for the Jets.
Now, even though it's still an interconference matchup, the AFC North will cross the NFC North. That means Rodgers will not only face the Packers, but all of his old divisional rivals — Chicago Bears, Minnesota Vikings, and Detroit Lions.
Curiously enough, Rodgers' first game for Pittsburgh will also be against a former team, since the Steelers will play against the Jets in Week 1.
