The talk all week was that the Pittsburgh Steelers we’re on the verge of bottoming out. That, with the season on the line against the Baltimore Ravens, Pittsburgh would continue its hopeless trend and all but end any shot at the postseason.

To be fair, the Steelers almost did just that on Sunday. The offense was stuck in the mud after an explosive start, the run game remained nonexistent, and the defense let up over 200 yards on the ground, yet again. But in the end, that unit stepped up when it mattered most and that propelled Aaron Rodgers to go to bat for his head coach.

Aaron Rodgers calls out media for Mike Tomlin coverage

“Means maybe you guys will shut the hell up for a week,” said Rodgers via the Pittsburgh Steelers YouTube channel when asked about what the win meant for Mike Tomlin this week. Remember, it was just days ago that Steelers fans were booing Renegade and chanting “Fire Tomlin.

“You know, in general I agree with them from this perspective. Football is our game. We’re in the sports and entertainment business. If you root for the Steelers, entertaining them is winning. So, when you’re not winning, it’s not entertaining,” said Tomlin prior to the Steelers game when asked about the chants. “If you’ve been in this business, you understand that. So, I respect it. I share frustrations. I understand what makes this thing go, and winning is what makes this thing go.”

And for the Steelers, especially at this point in the season with everything going on, you will take a win on the road against the Baltimore Ravens. A win that takes you to first place in the division and makes sure you have a shot at the playoffs.

Was it pretty? Absolutely not. Eight yards in the fourth quarter, less than 40 total on the ground, a rush defense that looked like water through a sieve again, it’s all a problem. But wins in the NFL and the AFC North are hard to come by.

That was the message that Aaron Rodgers is sending. That everyone in the locker room was sending.

“The whole world could be chanting ‘Fire Coach T’ [and] were going to be riding with Coach T,” said WR Calvin Austin III via Mike DeFabo on X-Twitter.

Four games to go and back in the drivers seat, will see what Pittsburgh does with the lead this time around.
