The Pittsburgh Steelers were hoping that they would be preparing for the New England Patriots this weekend in the divisional round of the playoffs. Then came the, 30-6, drumming from the Houston Texans, and suddenly the face of the franchise has changed forever.

The Steelers are in a full-court press to find their next head coach following Mike Tomlin’s bombshell decision. Beyond that, the Steelers will have to make some big-time decisions with their roster. That starts and ends with the quarterback position and, of course, Aaron Rodgers.

Well, after Rodgers said he would need time to decide his future, he may have had his choice made for him.

Art Rooney hints at Aaron Rodgers departure following Mike Tomlin’s resignation

“Yeah, I think, I mean, look, Aaron came here to play for Mike, so I think it will most likely affect his decision,” said Rooney via the Steelers YouTube channel on Tuesday.

It’s not a shock to hear that, but it is a total 180 from the rhetoric before Tomlin’s departure.

The prevailing notion was that the Steelers would welcome Rodgers back with open arms, but that the final decision would be his. Well, as he explained in what is now likely to be his final presser as quarterback of the Steelers, he was in Pittsburgh primarily because of Mike Tomlin, and he went to bat for his now former head coach after the Ravens game.

Aaron Rodgers could be retiring from the NFL

“I mean, I’m not going to make any emotional decisions,” said Rodgers after the game via the Steelers YouTube channel. “Disappointed, obviously, such a fun year. A lot of adversity, but a lot of fun. Been a great year overall, my life in the last year, and this is a really good part of that, coming here and being a part of this team. So it’s disappointing to be sitting here with the season over.”

So it appears that the Steelers will not only be searching for their next head coach, but their next starting quarterback as well. That’s a trend that’s all too familiar in Pittsburgh, as come Week 1 next season, the Steelers will start a sixth different quarterback in as many years.
