Steelers may suddenly have competition for Aaron Rodgers following report that AFC foe is interested in his services at QB
Aaron Rodgers suddenly has another team that is showing interest in him at quarterback.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have operated in an entirely different fashion the last two offseasons when it comes to the quarterback position. In both 2025 and this year, the Steelers have put all their eggs in the Aaron Rodgers basket.
You could argue that AFC North championship proved the move to sign Rodgers created a positive return on investment, but now a year older, the Steelers are in the same boat with Rodgers, only unlike this time last year, they may have new competition.
Aaron Rodgers is reportedly garnering interest from the Broncos
“Now, with (to date) only the Steelers linked to Rodgers during the 2026 free-agency cycle, Denver has potentially re-entered the chat. There’s talk of the Broncos possibly bringing Rodgers in for a visit. The motivation comes from the possibility that current starter Bo Nix won’t be fully and completely back to 100 percent when Week 1 rolls around.” – Mike Florio, Pro Football Talk/NBC Sports
Could Aaron Rodgers actually join the Broncos?
Look, I don’t know what Aaron Rodgers is thinking, or what his next steps are, and in all honesty, anyone (other than Rodgers) who tells you they do is blatantly lying. What I do know is that earlier this week, Mike McCarthy made one thing abundantly clear in multiple interviews: Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers have been in constant contact.
Again, I don’t know the nature of those conversations. Maybe they were more persuasive than passive. But for a coach to say that he’s talking with his former quarterback, whom the team has openly admitted that they would like to have back, multiple times a week, tells me both sides are interested in reuniting.
Now, one could argue that the Broncos, fresh off a season that saw them come within a field goal of potentially going to the Super Bowl is a much better situation than whatever the Steelers have going on.
But why would Rodgers want to essentially be a de facto backup? A placeholder until Bo Nix gets back. Or are the Broncos not only weary of Nix’s recovery, but his play as a whole? All questions that we may never know the answer to.
