Browns Pro Bowler has a message for Steelers fans hoping that Pittsburgh punches its ticket to the playoffs on Sunday
Denzel Ward and the Browns have a clear goal on Sunday.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have a shot to do what every team sets out for in training camp this Sunday. It’s a hat and t-shirt game for the Steelers, who have their eyes set on an AFC North title for the first time in half a decade.
The Cleveland Browns, on the other hand, are closer to the first pick in the draft than they are the playoffs, having been eliminated for some time now. But if the Steelers are hoping that Cleveland rolls over on Sunday, Browns Pro Bowler Denzel Ward says they have another thing coming.
Denzel Ward says Browns plan on ruining the Steelers’ playoff hopes
“Yeah man, it sounds like it’s an amazing opportunity that we have, you know, we still playing for something,” Ward said. “So we’re playing to ruin their hopes of getting into the playoffs, and so that’s what we’re going in there to try to do, and to the best way we can, but still something to play for.”
Now, if Pittsburgh were to somehow lose this game, it doesn’t mean their season is over, but the margin for error becomes razor-thin. If the Ravens beat a Packers team that already owns its ticket to the Playoffs on Saturday, and the Steelers drop the game in Cleveland, suddenly, Week 18 turns into a winner-take-all scenario for the Steelers. A game where they will be without DK Metcalf.
For more insight on Ward and the Browns, here is some analysis from Brandon Little of A to Z Sports Cleveland.
“The Browns’ success this season was all around, whether or not they could find much success at quarterback. Cleveland has an elite defense that is allowing just 301 yards per game, which is ranked third in the NFL. Cleveland’s defense is good enough to compete with any team, but the inability of the offense is the anchor to this team. The Browns are scoring just 16.4 points per game and have a bad special teams unit to pair with it.”
“Joe Flacco had the first four starts of the season and the Browns shipped him to the Cincinnati Bengals because he wasn’t helping the offense take off. Rookie third-round pick Dillon Gabriel had six starts and never really looked the part, and now Shedeur Sanders has started the last five games. Sanders has had moments of suffering, but turnovers have hindered him as well. Cleveland’s offense has other issues such as the offensive line and lack of talent at wide receiver. It’s just been an all-around bad year for the Browns on that side of the ball and this is probably Kevin Stefanski’s last matchup against the Steelers as the Browns head coach as a result.” – Little
