Cam Heyward sends a clear message to the NFL after video proves that Ja’Marr Chase lied about spitting on Jalen Ramsey
The Steelers captain knows what the NFL should do after the situation.
When Pittsburgh Steelers DB Jalen Ramsey was ejected for punching Cincinnati Bengals WR Ja’Marr Chase, everyone (and rightfully so) said that the move was intolerable and that he deserved to be ejected, if not more.
But per usual, there are two sides to the story. And Ramsey came out emphatically and said that he was spat on by Chase. When asked about it just a few minutes later, Chase denied, saying, “I didn’t spit on nobody.”
Well, the video proved that Chase lied, and Ramsey told the truth. That prompted Cam Heyward to send a message to the NFL.
Cam Heyward says there is no room for Ja’Marr Chase spitting on Jalen Ramsey
“We don’t ever want to see guys kicked out, but when one of our guys gets treated like that, I feel like he just handled it the right way,” said Cam Heyward via Mike DeFabo after the game. “Two competitors, but one guy took it too far. Our guy got penalized, but if you’re going to spit on a guy, you don’t belong in the game. Hopefully, the NFL handles it.”
What Ramsey did was totally acceptable, considering the video. The most degrading thing a player can do to his opponent is spit on him. There is nothing worse, nothing of a lower class. And it’s why Heyward said what he did because, at least, Chase should be suspended for a game, if not more.
“He spit. So, it’s up. I don’t give an expletive about football after that,” added Ramsey on the incident via Nick Farabaugh on X. “I was still a little too nice if I’m keeping it honest with you. [Spitting) is what expletives do.”
Mike Tomlin didn’t even know of the incident, saying after the game that what Ramsey did was unacceptable. “It doesn’t matter. We got to be smarter. We got to stay in football games as individuals,” said Tomlin of Ramsey after the game via the Steelers YouTube channel.
I’m sure his tune would change if he had seen the video, and it likely will when asked about the incident during his weekly presser on Tuesday. As for Ramsey, the NFL may still fine or even suspend him for his actions as well, as they have almost no tolerance for physical fighting.
But even if they do, it won’t be hard to argue that Ramsey was justified.
It feels like this story is far from over.
