The Pittsburgh Steelers addressed their quarterback situation this offseason by signing Mitch Trubisky to a two-year deal.
Trubisky is a short-term solution for the Steelers. While the franchise would love for him to be a long-term answer, the more likely scenario is that Trubisky is only the starter in 2022. The assumption is that Pittsburgh will draft a "quarterback of the future" in next month's 2022 NFL Draft.
Before last week, it was looking like the Steelers might have a tough time landing an impact quarterback with the No. 20 overall pick in the draft.
But thanks to all the recent quarterback movement, the Steelers' path to drafting a potential franchise quarterback is less cluttered than it was after the scouting combine earlier this month.

The Denver Broncos have the No. 9 pick. They no longer need a quarterback after trading for Russell Wilson. The Washington Commanders have the No. 11 pick, but they don't need a quarterback after trading for Carson Wentz.
Additionally, Kirk Cousins signed an extension with the Minnesota Vikings (who have the No. 12 pick).
The Detroit Lions (No. 2 pick), Carolina Panthers (No. 6 pick), Atlanta Falcons (No. 8 pick), and New Orleans Saints (No. 18 pick) are the teams ahead of the Steelers that could use a quarterback.
Detroit, however, almost certainly won't take a quarterback at No. 2 — there's not a quarterback in this draft class that's been deemed worthy of being selected that high.
Carolina and Atlanta could be a threat at No. 6 and No. 8, but they'd likely be reaching for a quarterback in this class with those picks.
The Saints are a wildcard. They could go a lot of different ways with their selection. Numerous mock drafts have New Orleans taking a wide receiver.
If all of those teams pass on quarterbacks, it would lead to Liberty quarterback Malik Willis falling into the Steelers' lap.
And that would be the best-case scenario for Pittsburgh.
Willis has the highest upside of any quarterback in this draft. There's a decent chance we look back at this draft a few years from now and wonder why he wasn't a top-five pick.
Landing Willis at No. 20 would be perfect for the Steelers. It would give them a quarterback of the future (maybe as soon as 2022, depending on how things play out, but ideally it would be 2023) while allowing Trubisky to run the show this season.
There are still some more chips that have to fall into place (where does Baker Mayfield end up and does Jimmy Garropolo get traded). But so far, the quarterback trade market and free-agent frenzy has substantially helped the Steelers' draft plans.
