The Pittsburgh Steelers finally play football this week.

Maybe it doesn’t mean much on paper, but the season is just around the corner, and Saturday night will be our first glimpse into the roster in 2025.

Here’s how to watch and what to look for…

How to watch Steelers vs Jaguars preseason Week 1:

  • Date: Aug. 9, 2025
  • Time: 7 p.m. ET
  • Location: EverBank Stadium, Jacksonville, Florida
  • TV channel: KDKA-TV (CBS Pittsburgh)
  • Streaming services: NFL +

What to look for

It’s still early in the week as of publish time, so we don’t know exactly how much, if any of the team’s starters will play, but if you have been following our daily takeaways from camp, you will know that there are still plenty of names to watch for…

WR Roc Taylor

The rookie UDFA has been lighting up camp in Latrobe, forming a connection with the next man on our list. If ever there was a year for a rookie UDFA to make the Steelers’ WR room, it’s 2025, and it starts with Roc Taylor carrying over his camp practices to stadiums.

QB Will Howard

Will Howard has had an excellent rookie camp to this point. He’s made a ton of splash throws, he’s found a favorite target via WR Roc Taylor, and above all else, he’s improved every practice. He started as the fourth teamer, but he’s consistently been getting reps with the ones in 7on7. Seeing him in live action will be important for his growth.

RB Kaleb Johnson

As you can see, this list is primarily focused on rookies, because we know above all else that they will be playing on Saturday night. Kaleb Johnson, who finds himself third in the running back room following the initial release of the team’s depth chart, is looking to make a statement in his first game as a Steeler.
