The Pittsburgh Steelers play their lone home game of the preseason this week.

Maybe it doesn’t mean much on paper, but the buildup to the game will be very important as the Steelers welcome the Buccaneers to Pittsburgh for a joint practice on Thursday.

Here’s how to watch and what to look for when the lights come on Saturday night in Pittsburgh…

How to watch Steelers vs Buccaneeers preseason Week 2:

  • Date: Aug. 16, 2025
  • Time: 7 p.m. ET
  • Location: Acrisure Stadium, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
  • TV channel: KDKA-TV (CBS Pittsburgh), WFLA-TV (Buccaneers)
  • Streaming services: NFL+

What to look for

Mike Tomlin’s comments about Aaron Rodgers and the preseason lead you to believe that we will be waiting until September to see the future Hall of Famer under center. We will gain more clarity as the game nears regarding the rest of the starters, but here are three players you should look out for…

RB Kaleb Johnson

Johnson had a very pedestrian start in his preseason debut with the Steelers. At times looking timid and out of sync, it was a disjointed night that resulted in only 2.5 yards a carry for the promising back out of Iowa.

As he gains more chemistry with the starting o-line and kicks the rookie jitters, I expect a big night from the former Hawkeye as the Steelers’ home crowd welcomes him to his first in one of the best atmospheres in sports.

QB Skylar Thompson

With Will Howard still likely to be sidelined due to a broken bone in his throwing hand, I expect yet another large sample size of Skylar Thompson. The question is, can he one-up, or even maintain the level of performance he had against the Jaguars?

Easily one of the Steelers with the biggest rise in stock, his 233 yards passing and three touchdowns while completing over 70% of his passes were nothing to sneeze at, despite the section of the calendar we’re in.

WR Ke’Shawn Williams

Despite the highly anticipated debut for Roc Taylor in the preseason, it was Ke’Shawn Williams who stole the show as the rookie UDFA WR to watch on Saturday night. Returns, chunk plays over the middle, and game-sealing touchdowns, you name it, Williams did it.

I firmly believe one of Roc Taylor, Max Hurleman, and or Ke’Shawn Williams will make this roster and be the number five or six option in the WR corps. If Williams keeps up his tendencies from Week 1 of the preseason, he certainly is the leader of that trio.
