The Pittsburgh Steelers only lost to the Chicago Bears by a score of 31-28, but judging the reaction of fans, media, and former players, you would think the team lost by 100 points. And if you watched the game, you know that kind of reaction is warranted.

Whether it was the decision to hold out Aaron Rodgers, the offensive play calling, or the regression of the Steelers’ defense after a sturdy couple of weeks, every coach in Pittsburgh needs to take a long look in the mirror after Sunday.

James “Deebo” Harrison agrees, and he sent a direct message to the staff in Pittsburgh and the man at the top.

James Harrison rips players, coaches, and Mike Tomlin following Steelers’ loss to the Bears

“It’s a sack/fumble because somebody decided to leave the tight end [Darnell Washington] one-on-one with the same dude that caused a sack before,” Harrison screamed into the mic on his Deebo and Joe podcast alongside Joe Haden on YouTube. “Why are we letting… He’s a tight end for a reason. I don’t give a damn if he’s 311. 311 don’t mean nothing if he can’t block. Why are we letting the tight end go one-on-one with the same dude that beat him on a sack the sack before?

Defense. Soft. I’m tired of seeing the offensive linemen pushing our defensive line 2-3 yards. We’re undisciplined, poorly coached, or both. We have a horrible defensive scheme. It’s trash, it’s garbage. We can’t adjust.”

If you need some visual evidence as to what Harrison is suggesting, look no further than what happened when Caleb Williams ripped a seam shot to D.J. Moore against a cover-three defense that a HS QB could expose.

And while he didn’t name any coach specifically, everyone knows when he’s talking about discipline and defensive scheme, he’s talking about the man at the top: Mike Tomlin. You can blame the coordinators all you want, but it’s Mike Tomlin’s defense, his philosophy, his scheme.

It was Mike Tomlin’s decision to hire Arthur Smith, and you can tell the influence he has on that side of the ball, judging by their immunity over the middle of the field in the passing game. A trend that has continued over three different offensive coordinators and nearly a decade.

Oh, and Omar Khan might be the GM, but don’t kid yourself, there is a reason Mike Tomlin is down on the field at the Senior Bowl every year and traveling to every pro day, he makes personnel decisions as well.

Harrison is just pointing out the obvious.
