Steelers’ attempt to beat the Dolphins just got a lot harder following sudden illness to key starter hours before kickoff
A banged up Steelers team just took another hit hours before kickoff.
The Pittsburgh Steelers were supposed to have two clear advantages heading into Monday Night Football against the Miami Dolphins. The weather and health. Well, the climate will still be an advantage because it is now predicted to be single digits at some point, the exact conditions the Dolphins have never won in with Tua Tagovailoa at quarterback.
As far as the health front, Derrick Harmon, the much-needed rookie in the middle of the defense, was supposed to be the only question mark. However, then came the punctured lung for T.J. Watt, and now Jaylen Warren woke up on gameday, and he isn’t feeling great.
Jaylen Warren is officially questionable for Monday Night Football due to illness
Tom Pelissero of NFL Network later added that the team, as well as Warren, is optimistic about him playing tonight, but we will closely monitor the situation leading up to inactives, which will be out 90 minutes before kickoff.
It goes without saying that Warren is a much-needed asset in the Steelers’ offense. He and DK Metcalf are the two most explosive weapons that Pittsburgh employs. When the ball is in their hands, good things tend to happen.
However, Kenny Gainwell has been a nice chess piece for the Steelers’ offense. He’s not the every-down back that Warren is, but he is one of the team’s top receivers, given his ability to catch out of the backfield. Even if Warren can go, expect a heavy dose of Gainwell.
Other roster moves and injury status ahead of Monday Night Football
Darnell Washington has cleared concussion protocol, and he will be good to go. Watt, James Pierre, and Andrus Peat have all been ruled out, while the question of whether or not Harmon will play still looms. The Steelers signed Marquez Valdes-Scantling to the active roster, and Asante Samuel Jr. will start at corner.
It’s not a coincidence that in the last two games, in which Harmon missed both, the Steelers’ defense has allowed over 200 yards on the ground. Pittsburgh will need its sensational rookie against a red-hot Dolphins team.
