Lions fan who baited DK Metcalf categorically denies allegations regarding what he was accused of saying to Steelers’ star WR
Here is the latest in the saga between Metcalf and the Lions fan.
What turned out to be the third straight victory and a dramatic finish for the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday has quickly been overshadowed by something unrelated to the product on the field.
DK Metcalf was seen getting into an altercation with a Lions fan during the game, and it quickly escalated into a he said, he said situation. Metcalf came out late on Sunday night, revealing that a fan used a racial slur towards him and a misogynistic term towards his mother. The fan has since released a statement denying the allegations.
Fan involved in Metcalf altercation denies using racial, misogynistic terms
“Ryan Kennedy categorically denies using the “(expletive),” the “(expletive),” or any racial, misogynistic, or hate-based slur during the incident that occurred on December 21, 2025, at Ford Field during the Pittsburgh Steelers-Detroit Lions game,” Kennedy released in a public statement. “These allegations are completely false.”
“At no point during or after the incident did Mr. Kennedy use racial slurs or hate speech of any kind. The claims suggesting otherwise are untrue and are not supported by video evidence, eyewitness accounts, or any contemporaneous reporting. Despite reports in the media last night and today, Mr. Kennedy has not used such language during any interactions with Mr. Metcalf or any other players in the past.”
Multiple angles have surfaced since the game ended, but the main one from the broadcast shows the fan holding a black and gold jersey, with what was reported by CBS sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson to have the No. 4 on it, clearly showing that the fan baited Metcalf, and he took it hook, line, and sinker.
Someone is clearly lying in this situation. The bottom line, however, is that even if that was a Steelers fan screaming Metcalf’s name and asking for an autograph, the Steelers star has to have the presence of mind to ignore it during the middle of the game.
Metcalf was struggling to separate before the incident, and he followed up the altercation by dropping a pass and then getting called for offensive pass interference. He was clearly off his game mentally, and the baiting from the Lions fan worked.
The only question remaining in all of this is what happens to Metcalf? The NFL is looking into the situation, and you can assume it will involve some punishment for Metcalf. Whether that’s a fine or a suspension remains to be seen.
Update: The NFL has suspended Metcalf for two games without pay for his actions on Sunday.
