Fans of the Pittsburgh Steelers may finally be at their wits’ end when it comes to head coach Mike Tomlin. Following an utter collapse in the third quarter that gave the Buffalo Bills a firm grasp on the game, there was an audible “fire Tomlin” chant at Acrisure Stadium on Sunday.

In fact, it was so loud that even on the TV broadcast, you could hear fans giving their thoughts on the Steelers’ head coach. And when asked about the chant in his postgame presser, Mike Tomlin didn’t shy away.

Mike Tomlin echoes sentiments of Steelers fans during loss to Bills

“Man, I share their frustrations tonight. We didn’t do enough. That’s just the reality of it,” said Mike Tomlin when asked what he thought of the “fire Tomlin” chants via the Pittsburgh Steelers YouTube channel. “We didn’t do a lot well tonight, obviously. We didn’t possess the ball or maintain ball security on offense.

“We were highly penalized. We allowed those guys to run the ball. Didn’t play 60 minutes of action. Didn’t play complimentary football. And so we got to absorb that result. You know, we’re certainly not going to feel sorry for ourselves. That’s this business we’re in.”

We can talk about the offensive issues when it comes to Aaron Rodgers looking off yet again, or the inability of any of the WRs to get open, but that may as well be beating a dead horse. It’s been stink, stank, stunk, on that side of the ball for some time now.

But to see a Tomlin defense, which was retooled this offseason to stop the run, let up almost 250 yards on the ground was downright disturbing, even with the injuries suffered in the game. That’s not Steelers football, and everyone inside Acrisure Stadium on Sunday knew that.

“Yeah, that’s part of it,” said QB Aaron Rodgers after the game when asked about the chant. “You know, they pay money for a ticket so they have the right good, bad, and indifferent to say what they want. So I totally understand the frustration. I’ve been booed on offense, even in Green Bay over the years, so that was a boo-worthy performance and I understand the frustration.”

What may be even more damning is that when Renegade came on in the fourth quarter, Steelers fans booed instead of taking out their terrible towels and giving them a twirl.

If that keeps up, everyone in Pittsburgh is in trouble.
