The Pittsburgh Steelers had one of the worst losses in recent memory on Sunday, and many have deemed it a win over Myles Garrett, but a loss for what matters most. Because now, the Steelers have a do or die, winner take all matchup against the Baltimore Ravens in the final game of the regular season.

Well, that was obviously preventable, but the Steelers’ offense scored just six points all day long. That led many to believe that the Steelers were more concerned about stopping Myles Garrett, than they were winning the AFC North. Well, Myles Garrett seemingly agreed.

Myles Garrett said Steelers were more focused on protecting Aaron Rodgers than winning

“To an extent, they were more worried about keeping me away from Aaron (Rodgers) than getting the win. That’s what came back to bite them,” said Garrett after the game on Sunday.

Now here’s the thing. Do I believe that the Steelers were on high alert and Aaron Rodgers was cognizant of where N0.95 was at all times? No doubt. Did he get the ball out quickly, and did the offense do its best to protect LT Dylan Cook with chip help and dedicate extra bodies to that side? Absolutely.

Guess what, though? The Steelers did the same thing against Garrett earlier in the season, where Garrett was also shut out against the Steelers, failing to record a sack then as well. So no, the Steelers didn’t focus more on keeping Myles Garrett from the record than they did on winning.

The truth is, those two aren’t mutually exclusive. In order to try and beat the Browns and subsequently win the AFC North, you have to make sure that you take care of No.95 in orange. The real reason the Steelers lost is because of a decision they made months ago.

Steelers trading George Pickens cost them Browns game

When the Steelers let George Pickens walk out that door for the final time and didn’t have a clear plan for his replacement, what happened against the Browns was just a matter of time.

Sure, it shouldn’t have taken a DK Metcalf suspension for the team to find that out, but whether it was Metcalf getting into an altercation with a fan or turning his ankle, the process of having only one difference maker at WR caught up to the Steelers.
