NFL gives the Steelers exactly what they were hoping for just hours after they traded away draft picks for WR Michael Pittman
The Steelers will have quite the haul when the NFL Draft comes to Pittsburgh in April.
While we are in the heart of NFL free agency, the NFL Draft is quickly approaching. In a little over a month, the NFL world will flock to the city of Pittsburgh, Pennsyalvania for a festival unlike anything the city has ever seen.
It just so happens that the team that is hosting the draft also has the most draft picks at its disposal in recent memory. That much was confirmed on Monday, when smack dab in the middle of free agency, the NFL dropped its compensatory picks for the 2026 NFL Draft.
NFL grants the Steelers four compensatory picks for the 2026 NFL Draft
The Pittsburgh Steelers now have 12 total picks for April’s draft, assuming the Michael Pittman trade was a late-round pick swap. Even if the Steelers didn’t have to give up, say a 5th rounder for Pittman, the announcement from the NFL allows them to breathe easy. Of the 12 total picks the Steelers will have in April, four of them are compensatory, and two of them are considered valuable capital.
Steelers 2026 comp picks
- 3rd rounder
- 4th rounder
- 2 6 rounders
This mean that the Steelers will have a first, a second, two thirds, and two fourths heading into April. Obviously if they just stick and pick, that nets them a great chance at finding quality depth and maybe even a few starters, but there is an even better option.
Steelers can use comp picks as a package deal to trade up
Let’s say the Steelers make their selection at 21, and they want to get back in at the end of night one. With two threes, those can easily be packaged with their second rounder to make for an easy trade back into round one. Or, they can be used to move up from 21, to acquire multiple second-round picks, or even 2027 draft capital. The opportunities truly are endless.
