Mitchell Trubisky’s run with the Pittsburgh Steelers came to an end earlier this week.

The Steelers announced on Monday that they released Trubisky, which came a year after the two sides agreed to terms on a two-year extension deal. The Steelers saved around $3 million in cap space after parting ways with the veteran passer.

The question for Trubisky now turns to just what is next for him at this stage in his career. It would be a long shot to see any team offer him an opportunity to compete to be a starting quarterback this year.

For Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, he could see Trubisky making his return to the Buffalo Bills for a few reasons.

"Mitch Trubisky going back to Buffalo would make all the sense in the world," Breer wrote on SI.com. "He had a really nice year there in 2021, to the point where Brian Daboll seriously considered taking the quarterback to the New York Giants with him. 

"And while the Bills were happy to have Josh Allen’s buddy Kyle Allen there last year, Trubisky would help to upgrade the room."

Trubisky spent the 2021 season with the Bills serving as Josh Allen’s go-to backup at the quarterback position. He logged a mere eight pass attempts over six games played in the campaign.

It will be noteworthy to see just which team ends up signing Trubisky. He sure had his fair share of highs and lows during his two-season run with Pittsburgh.
