Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio released a report Friday night regarding Aaron Rodgers and trade deals with three separate teams. One of the teams listed in the report was the Pittsburgh Steelers.
There's been plenty of back and forth regarding the validity of the report ever since the report came out. And with good reason. There's always going to be debate centered around the reality of a trade any time the trade subject involves a top-tier NFL player. Especially considering what happened last year with Rodgers.
ESPN's Jeremy Fowler cleared things up a bit Sunday. He reported early that morning the Steelers aren't considered "major players" in the trade but "are on the periphery".
So, you're telling me there's a chance?
In all seriousness, it makes sense that Pittsburgh isn't a major contender considering the fact the Broncos are involved. Denver was rumored to be a favorite in the Rodgers sweepstakes last year and the franchise has the necessary cap space, along with the draft picks, to make a trade happen.
There's also the roster. Denver is considered by many to be "just a quarterback away" when it comes to contending in the NFL. And lastly, new head coach Nathaniel Hackett – Rodgers' offensive coordinator the last three seasons- puts a nice, tidy bow on the whole package.
Who knows, maybe something will change and the Steelers will swoop in at the last second and make a trade happen. But for now, it doesn't appear as if that'll be the case.
