The Pittsburgh Steelers are a confident bunch. They believe that they're being underrated around national media, but it doesn't phase them. The Steelers are putting in work to try to get back to the top of the AFC North. If they do that, their pass rush will be a major piece of their success. Overall, the defense will need to be elite in order for them to truly contend in the AFC.
Edge rusher Alex Highsmith has broken out as an impact defender over the past couple of seasons. The young pass rusher thinks that Pittsburgh played their best ball to finish last season after seeing inconsistencies early on in the year. The duo of Highsmith and T.J. Watt can be special.
As a matter of a fact, Highsmith believes that the Steelers defense, as a whole, can be the best in the NFL.
ProFootballTalk provided an intriguing quote from Highsmith about the team's potential this season and beyond.
“I know 100 percent we can be the best defense in the NFL, especially if we all stay healthy… I am excited about the guys that we have. We have depth at almost every position. There is a possibility for him to be correct about this year. The Steelers added plenty of talent, including CBs Patrick Peterson and Joey Porter Jr., LB Cole Holcomb, and safety Keanu Neal. Keep an eye on their defense this season.
