The Pittsburgh Steelers are signing linebacker Myles Jack to a two-year deal worth $16 million, according to multiple reports.
Jack was released by the Jacksonville Jaguars earlier this week.
The former second-round draft selection played in 15 games for the Jaguars last season, totaling 108 tackles.
Jack graded out poorly last season. According to Pro Football Focus, Jack had an overall grade of just 37.7. He graded 40.5 in run coverage and 43.3 in pass coverage.
But in 2020, Jack graded out pretty decent. He had a 69.1 overall grade (75.7 in run defense and 65.0 in coverage).
This is a solid deal for the Steelers at this price point, despite Jack's down year in 2021. The former UCLA linebacker has a lot of upside. And I think he'll likely fair better in Pittsburgh than he did in Jacksonville under Urban Meyer (pretty sure that guy made everyone in Jacksonville worse last year).
This isn't a splashy move, but it's a good move for the Steelers. And maybe it gives them room to pursue safety Tyrann Mathieu, who is likely to command around $15 million a year on his new contract, wherever that ends up being.
