ESPN made some offseason predictions this week for each team that's no longer in the playoffs and they have the Pittsburgh Steelers moving on from a veteran that was signed ahead of the 2023 season.
Aaron Schatz thinks the Steelers will release wide receiver Allen Robinson, a move that will save Pittsburgh $10 million in cap space with a $1.917 million dead cap hit.
From ESPN: They will cut veteran wide receiver Allen Robinson II, who was a disappointment in 2023 (34 catches for 280 yards). That move can save the Steelers $10 million on the cap in 2024 with just $1.9 million in dead money.
Robinson was hoping for a bounce back season after a letdown year with the Los Angeles Rams in 2022. Instead, Robinson had the worst season of his NFL career (outside of 2017 when he missed nearly the entire season), catching just 34 passes for 280 yards and zero touchdowns.
This feels like a move that's inevitable. It creates a significant amount of cap space for the Steelers and it clears up a roster spot for another playmaker to emerge.
